how to change a Dynamic ip address in windows 7?

I have been doing a lot of reading on how to change your IP and to me in windows 7 it is not possible.
How to change (Dynamic) IP address in Windows 7 or Vista?

Has any one been able to change there IP? I have tried everything. run/ipconfig /release, unpluging modem and router and no change.

You just have to wait for the ip lease to time out. Do you mean the dhcp address your computer has, or the one that the ISP assigned to your router?

I'm talking about the one say if you go the the site (myIP) and it showes your IP in the center of the page, not the one the router assigns. Sry don't know all the terms (pc).
How do I know when it times out?

That is the dhcp lease from your internet service provider. The usual timeout is 2 weeks, but unless they run out of addresses your modem will pull the same address over and over. The only way to absolutely get a new address is to get a different modem. Sometimes changing the device plugged into the modem (router in your case) will get you a new ip assigned. If you call the tech support line they *might* reset the lease for you, but their isn't anything you can tell them that will force them to. It will depend on the support tech that you get on the phone. Why do you want to change your public IP anyways?

How to change (Dynamic) IP address in Windows 7 or Vista?

    The Quicker method:
-in the icon tray in the bottom right of the screen, click on the icon that represents your internet connection
-Then click "Open Network and Sharing Center"
-On the left hand menu, click "Change adapter settings"
-right click on your wireless connection and click "Properties"
-Highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click "Properties"
-To set ip address dynamically, click "Obtain an ip address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

    Alternative:
    -go to start->control panel
-in the search bar, it should say: "Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items"
    -click on "Control Panel"
-This should take you to a screen with headings like System and Security, Network and Internet, Hardware and Sound, etc
-Under Network and Internet, click "View network status and tasks"
-On the left hand menu, click "Change adapter settings"
-right click on your wireless connection and click "Properties"
-Highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click "Properties"
-To set ip address dynamically, click "Obtain an ip address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

For me at least, resetting the router gets me a new public IP. As ccatlett said though why do you want to? Unless you have an IP ban from a site of course....

Even if you are successful changing an IP address whatever DHCP is given can still be tracked to you.

Adrian, the steps you list in your above post will not help the OP, he needs to change the public facing ip of his router, not of his computer.

    I understood his original post.
There has been some excellent advice on changing the DHCP using the routers config. My assumption was that the OP is trying to change what his Ip assigns his address within the cable modem.
