Windows 7: Windows 7 insists I need password for XP machine that's never had one.

Usually when you start getting password prompts out of the blue when you don't even have password protected sharing turned on, it means that the time/date settings on those PC's are not in sync with each other.

no, it didn't work.

Can anyone think of Services that might be the source of the problem? I'm going through those on the XS machine now.

There are error messages on the xp machine about not being able to synchronize the clock. Unfortunately I cleared the log before I saw your message.

Sometimes this occurs because the bios clock isn't set correctly or the cmos battery is dead and needs replacement.
