Windows 7: Can't turn on network discovery

I am trying to turn on network discovery, but it won't let me. The message just keeps showing up.



I think it has to do with the Computer Browser service, which I also can't turn on. It just shuts itself off after 3 seconds.

Also, although I'm connected to wifi, it shows a LAN icon with a red X in the tray.

In order to enable the Network Discovery settings, you may make sure the following services are enabled and running.

- DNS Client
- Function Discovery Resource Publication
- SSDP Discovery
- UPnP Device Host

All started, but still won't work.

You might try running the sfc/scannow command to see if any files are missing.

Windows 7 system restore is another option.

If you have any system back up images now would be a good time to use them.

I got my computer fixed that had the exact same issue. I think it was related to a virus. Go to start/control panel/admin tools/ services. Scoll down to windows firewall service. Click on it and then press stop. Go back and see if you can turn windows discovery on and if it will stay one. If it does you have a firewall issue. Go to tinyurl.com/pornofix and download the small software package and then run the package. Uncheck everything except repair firewall. Run the repair firewall. restart computer and at that point mine started working correctly. Please make sure your firewall is back on by going back to services.msc and checking to see that it started.
