File and Printer sharing..!!

Hi,

In my office there are 2 desktop (Windows 7 & XP) computers and 2 laptops (Windows 7 & XP). These computers are connected to BSNL wifi router (ADSL) which has intermittent internet connection. I have also installed 2 printers on the desktop computers, one being deskjet (Windows 7) and the other laser (XP comp). On the XP system (desktop) i've enabled printer sharing.

PS: desktop computers are connected by RJ-45 and laptops by WiFi

Issue :

successfully configured other PC for printer sharing. Now the issue is as i said earlier due to intermittent internet connection remaining 3 computers are unable to print laser printer when the net is down however it works fine.

What can be done..?? Also on the XP sys (desktop) i would also like to enable a particular folder to be shared.

Kindly reply with detailed steps with an alternate solution for file and printer sharing.

Just found your post. If you have set up a normal network for all of these PC's then you don't need an internet connection for the network to work. Whether you are connected to the internet or not makes no difference to the local network. Though bear in mind You cannot set a Windows 7 Homegroup network and connect XP machines to it. All the PC's must be Win 7 for a Homegroup to work.

As a further note. I have just read your previous threads and it would appear that you have an unusual LAN setup with two routers connected. I think this is your main problem. Use just one router and a repeater unit if you need to extend the wireless range.
