help mapping network driver via VPN if possible?

Hey,

I want to know if its possible to map one of my work PC's network drives from home using my Windows 7 laptop. At the minute I connect using RDP which is great however its very slow and sluggish.

Our (not great) IT department has shown me how to download the security certificate onto my own laptop which has allowed me to configure my outlook naively to access my work PC without needing to start a VPN connection which has helped massively however is there a way of using the security certificate to someone map some of the drives that are on the work network?

I can view & map the drives if I create a VPN however is there a way of doing it without?

Cheers
