All my Movies not showing up

I have got a external hard drive that I am using as a media storage device that has all my 1100 movies on. The problem is that windows Media player is not showing them all for example I have Rose Red Disc 1 and Rose Red Disc 2 and only the disc 1 is showing up and it is also not showing up on my Playstation 3 that I am using for a media server in the living room to play it on my TV why is this happening? This is not the only movie doing this.

I have a similar problem with all of my movies on the main PC hard disk not showing up on the PS3 as they do on the PC - sometimes instead of selecting videos, all videos I need to go in to the "genre" folder to see them. This is something I have not figured out yet, I have been just living with it as long as I eventually see the movie I want to watch on the TV. Only difference is I am not using an external disk but should not matter ?

Is this the problem you have ?

I had that problem with the WMP. It randomly showed what it wanted and in most cases, just a pain in the azz to use.
I use a program called PS3 Media Server to play movies in my PS3 and it works great. All I use the WMP for is to hold playlists for the 200+ gigs of music I have and was still pain cause it was always indexing something and would slow everything down untill it finished, which took a long time. I found a program called Playlist Creator inwhich requires the WMP to be networked in (wmpnetwk.exe) but I don't use the WMP to play music or movies only to hold the playlists I've made.
IMO dump using the WMP to play anything and use the PS3 media server to watch movies through your ps3 onto your TV. I also found using the wireless sometimes froze the movies so I had to hardwire my PS3 in and have had no problems since well except for the "Cinavia" muting of the audio but gonna end up jailbreaking my ps3 one day to get around that.

    PS3 Media Server:

    Playlist Creator:

I also read somewhere that you have to keep the playlists @50 songs or you might have hassles using large playlists in the WMP.

Thanks Alter for the info - I will certainly be trying out the PS3 Media Server..... if it can improve the showing of film titles from what it does on the PS3 right now it will be an improvement.

I have good luck adding network drive shares to the Library folders. The movies always seem to show up across my network.

Hi Alter - the Media Server is great, when its working ? Sometimes the PS3 finds the server next time it doesn't. Are there specific settings, sequence of power ups that I need to use so that they reliably see each other.... would appreciate any help, thanks.

I really have had no problems with the server so I'm kinda at a disadvantage to helping you out.
I found that when you change anything in the movie folder you have to either quit the media server and restart or "restart server" at the top.
A shot in the dark is that maybe some of the movies might have too many characters (150 max) inwhich having them either too many folders deep or too big of a name. I had that problem with song titles I had that added up to over 150 characters and they weren't seen by the Media Server untill I shortened the names.
I don't have a huge movie file (less than 100) so maybe you have too many movies in a single folder, try breaking them up into several folders.
I haven't changed any setting in the PS3 server, it was all plug and play for me so I have a hard time figuring out your problem.
The PS3 has to be on before you enable the PS3 server on the comp.
Broken record in saying ports being blocked by firewall or antiviris causing the server not to be seen.
I have my Power Save Settings>>>System Auto Off>>Video set for 2 hours and the Game\Other Features turned off in the PS3 console settings inwhich might having the PS3 autoshut off might disrupt the server.
Having wireless also might cause issues in finding the server if the wireless drops but you "search for media render" in the PS3 and it should pick up the server. Thats why I have my PS3 hardwired in.
I bought a netgear R6300 router that has a built in media server so now all I use the PS3 media server for is to play my music and .mkv files I download. The netgear server plays everything else.
Sorry but I' seem to be not much help.
