Connected to WiFi router but no internet acess!

I have a ASUS E56U i5 notebook computer with Windows 7 Home Ultimate. A few days ago it just stopped getting internet. I get the error: No DNS server detected. I tryed the hardwired connection, and it worked fine. Then I set up my Netgear
signal extender and connected to my router through it and it worked fine. I don't normaly use the extendor as I live in a small one bedroom appartment. It's for other locations. I have researched this problems and followed over a dozen diffrent instructions to flush DNS and disable some other stuff, etc. Nothing works.
I have AVG free antivirus, but it has never interfered with my internet on any of my computers.
The computer is a few months old. It came with Mcaffee, but I uninstalled it. So that couldn't be it.
Please help.

If you had McAfee you will want to run it's special uninstaller tool.

A few problems I noticed at that you have 2 Msoft Virtual WiFi mini port adaptors enabled, you should disable both of them as they aren't used unless you set up a hosted wireless network.

Another possible problem is that you seem to have a default gateway showing up where the DNS servers should be.

Is there secondary router in this network or did you type the default gateway into the DNS settings for some reason?

It may help to type the DNS servers into the routers settings then remove the entries from the IPv4 properties.

It also appears that you typed a DNS server into your WINS at the IPv4 properties, WINS isn't used much anymore so removing that entry might be wise.

That software cleaned somthing up, butnow i have a "Limited Access" error. And I can't use any of my connections. Ipconfig sows some strange IP number 169.254.245.227. I don't know where that comes from.

Well, I rolled back windows to before I ran the MCPR.exe file, and now I am back to how it was. I can access my WiFi router through the signal extender but not directly. The IPv4 settings ar all automatic. No Manual entries for DNS or WINS.
I can also make a wired connection to my router and internet.

I realy don't know what to do now.

The strange IP you see is just what Windows shows when it can't obtain a valid IP.

You will also want to uninstall AVG as it's famous for creating connection problems for no apparent reason. http://www.avg.com/ww-en/faq.num-4416

All I can tell you is that the major DNS issue was recently connected to McAfee and you definitely need to uninstall it completely to eliminate that as a possible problem. Uninstalling McAfee should be having no effect on your connection unless there are other problems involved here.

The default gateway in your DNS settings is suspect because it's not supposed to be there unless you have a DNS servers typed into your routers settings. In fact, you really need to type two valid DNS servers into your routers settings for DNS servers, try using Google's DNS at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I'm not sure why the WINS IP would show up unless it's typed in someplace.

Ok. So, I uninstalled AVG 2013 and ran the MCPR.exe program. No change. I did fix the WINS setting in my router and I am using Open DNS servers Again, the direct Wifi connection to my router is not geting the DNS connection info. But the connection via the WiFI signal repeater (wireless connection) works fine. Wired connection also works fine.

The working and non-working ipconfig data is identical.
It seems that somthing is wrong with the direct wifi connection to the router. I deleted the connection profile, but that didn't help. There must be a way to purge all old connection info, and to reset to as new condition as the compute was out of the box.

So you disabled the Msoft Virtual adaptors, the Ethernet connection works but the wireless won't work at all, despite it shows up it having a valid IP.

If you haven't reset the router you should probably do that.

The Wifi works through the signal extendor. But not directly connected to the Wifi router. The extendor has an interface, but it only helps connecting to the right WiFI router and asks wether to use the routers security aor a diffrent password. It only acts as a relay.
The signal extendor connects to my router and uses the security settings from thw router. It is acting as a WiFi relay. When i am connected to my Wifi router through the extendor I can browse the internet, but not when I connect directly (wirelessly) to my router.
My friend dropped it with his laptop computer with Win 7 Home ultimate and had no problems connecting and browsing the net. I can also connect to my router with my Ipad 2 and Ipod 5g. So the wifi router works fine.
It must be a fault in the network protocols on my laptop computer.
I updated the network drivers and software and no joy.
The OpenDNS addresses are in the router.

Can you connect to the router "without the extender" if you are right next to it?

I can connect by Ethernet wire, but not wirelessly unless i go through the signal extender. Going through the wire or the Signal extender I can surf the net. Connecting wirelessly directly to the router I get no internet. DNS can not be resolved.
My friends Win7 laptop has no problem, and neather has my ipod 5g.
