Windows 7: Cannot see my computers in Windows homenet or Explorer.

Cannot see my computers in Windows homenet or Explorer.

I have a home network with all Windows 7 home sp 1 machines. I've set up a windows 7 homenet.
This has been working fine for a long time.
Then last week I could not access one computer from another. I've been switching of the firewalls without any luck. I've pinged the ip-adresses with ok.
When I'm looking at the network in the windows 7 network map i see all machines. I can also see information about ip-adresses and computername by holding the mousepointer over each machine. But in Windows explorer and my windows homenet I see none of the other computers.
There was done a lot of updates last week in windows/zonealarm could there be a problem with some windows update?

Have you tried disabling Zone Alarm?.

IF you go into, Control Panel > Network and sharing Centre. Then click on "Change Advanced Sharing Settings"

under: File Sharing Connections, Make sure its set to use 128-Bit Encryption and not 40 - 56 Bit

Under: Password Protected sharing, Is yours turned on or off?.
If password protected sharing is turned on, Has any passwords been removed recently? or have any changed?

Also, Check that they are both on the same Workgroup. Right click on my computer, then go to properties, under comupter name, domain, and workgroup settings, confirm they are both using the same workgroup

I've tried disabling Zone Alarm.

File Sharing Connections is 128-Bit Encryption.
Password Protected sharing is turned off.
The workgroups are the same.

Remember this has been working very nice until friday.

Thank You for trying

I know it's been working fine recently, but i thought id just check, incase something has changed.

If you go to, programmes and features - then click on, view installed updates.

Anything new since friday?.

perhaps uninstall them, can always perform another windows update later, to put them back on.

I've uninstalled all uppdates on the computers since 10.1.2013 (Puhhhh).
That did not had any effect on my problem.

Could this be a hardware problem?
May be the router in my modem (which I've got from my internet supplier) have a fault?
I admit that my network-knowledge is not great.

I wouldn't say its a router issue, nor a hardware issue.

Make sure network discovery is turned on, on both machines.
  1. Open Advanced sharing settings by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type network, click Network and Sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, click Change advanced sharing settings.
  2. Click the chevron to expand your current network profile.
  1. Click Turn on network discovery, and then click Save changes. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Are both computers set to the same Group? (home group, Work group, public group)

To change a network location type

Log on to the network.
  1. Open Network and Sharing Center by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Click Customize, and then click either Public (for "Public place" networks) or Private (for "Home" or "Work" networks). If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click Next, and then click Close.

I've bought a smal router and put it between the modem and my swich because I think my ip-adresses was rader strange; 193.258.23.xxx.
After doing that and restart all the computers, switch and wireless accesspoint I colud see my computers in Windows explorer. To get connected I had to install home network from start as you suggested and configured it according to your advice.

Now everything works perfect
