Using system restore or running a start up repair a few times from the Windows CD is another option.

Clearing the cmos then setting to defaults would fix most board problems unless the board is just fried "unlikely".

Reinstalling the Op system should also be tried before the board is tossed.
thx for the reply
I tried the system restore to a year ago, that did not work.
cleared the cmos and then set the defaults on the BIOS, that did not work either
would try reinstalling the system soon
One point here, the only time I saw the NIC show up on the device manager list was on the very first time I installed the new PCIe card, I had to restart the comp before installing the PCIe card and upon the restart, the NIC was completely gone from the device manager list.
I have not been able to get it back on there after trying all the suggestions and removing and installing the PCIe card physically several times, this leads me to believe this has to be some kind of virus or registry error which is preventing the NIC to show up on the device manager list.

Hi tdcv,

'Windows re-install' would be worth a shot; should isolate if the issue is due to 'software'.

Hi tdcv,

Glad that the issue is fixed with a known-good adapter; was wondering if you 're-installed Windows' before replacing the 'adapter'.

no, taking too many chances with my POS system loaded on windows, if the reinstall messes up my POS settings, I'd have been in even more trouble, USB ethernet adapter was the best option since the PCIe card did not work, have read a lot of places that the integrated on-board NIC's going bad is more common than what one would expect
now I know

Hi tdcv,

Correctly said, 'Re-installing Windows' would have resulted into loss of 'POS settings'; using another 'adapter' was definitely a faster & an easier resolve. Thank you for confirming.
