Internet Connection ONLY works consistently when pinging

I have been with 3 mobile for around four months and experienced excellent broadband through their Huawei e586 MyFi device with just one half day of dodgy service in that period. However, that has all changed over the past week or so. Every single day, I get about 10 minutes usage before a yellow exclamation mark appears over the internet symbol and I am told that there is 'no internet access' through the 3Mobile connection. The MiFi still clearly states that it is seeing a connection. My other wireless connection through the router works fine although it is slow, which is why I got the 3mobile as my main one.

I logged a call and 3 checked the local coverage and told me that it was fine. They then remoted on to my PC, reset the settings for my browser(s) and cleared out the temp and prefetch directories. They also got me to re-set the device and added some further software to the unit. This appeared to speed up the connection, but on completing the call, ten minutes later the connection collapsed again.
I am running Windows 7 Home Professional, am trying to use the MiFi through a USB Cradle connection to the PC as I use it for home broadband and predominately use Firefox as my browser.
I have tried disabling Internet Protocol v6, have flushed the DNS and turned the Windows Firewall off along with my Bullguard Firewall and Virus Check to no avail.

I noted that around the time the problems started, I downloaded a whole heap of Windows updates, so also tried a System Restore. However, on trying to do this, I noted that the feature had been disabled (presumably by some update as I wouldn't have done it) and the last restore point available was October 2012; too long ago.

Foolishly, I then started to try to uninstall all of the updates manually, but soon realised that was not a great idea, so I re-installed all to ensure Windows is up to date on my PC. In total I think I have installed approximately 62 updates since the probles started.

Bizarrely, the connection stayed strong enough to download 480 MB without failing. In fact, I have noticed that continually pinging a website also seems to keep the connection alive.
Although they have not yet given up, I sense 3 are nearing the end of what they feel that they can do and it seems to me that there appear to be a lot of similar issues being logged in these forums, so it looks like a Windows 7 problem to me. PLEASE help me!

It sounds like the connection is timing out. Hence why with a ping -t. The connection stays.

Is there a setting on the interface for 3mobile It will either be:

    "Nailed up connection"
    "Keep Alive"
    "connect on demand"

You will want it to be Nailed up, or keep alive.

    Bradders,

Thanks very much for replying. Where would I look for the setting you refer to?

I have no idea what the interface for one of those Mobile sticks look like.

Have a browse around the settings. Be carefull what you change. Id assume it would be under " connection "
