Grab the latest drivers Wireless for CompB from the manufactures website site.

update

First try accessing CompB with \\ipaddress

Then try to ping compA to CompB 1st using names, 2nd using IP address.

you might have to open firewall ports on pc. If use run this command in elevated command prompt (right click and run as admin).

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=”ALL ICMP V4″ protocol=icmpv4:any,any dir=in action=allow

Did that on Saturday. I don't know how to verify it, but with the new install of windows there were no drivers for LAN (wireless or wired). I had to get them. Windows was just installed Friday.

All pings timeout. I can ping the router from both computers, of course, but I cannot ping the other computer. Before adding that exception to the firewall (Both replied with OK), I got "Reply from [current computer]: Destination host unreachable."
The clocks have been synced - synced with internet time, and I forced a re-sync to make sure.

I tried to ping with name, but I don't think I am doing it right. Apolyplace is the name of the router - I can ping the router using IP address, but I cannot using name.

I have this feeling that if I can get this computer (Comp B) to communicate with the Xbox, I will be able to view the other computer. I don't know if that makes things easier for you.

Your ping with name is incorrect. apolyplace.apolymoxic [72.215.225.9] is a public address thats one easy clue. I'm at work and i will get back in min. what are the hostname of each PC. type in hostname on the command prompt.

I saw that IP address and I realized that it was the public address. It's not even the IP address given to me by my ISP, so I am not sure where it even got that IP. The computer names are apoly-laptop and apoly-server (No, it's not a real server, but it's stationary so I thought the name was fitting).

What error do you recieve if you go to a windows explorer and type in \\apoly-laptop or \\apoly-server

that is also how you want to ping.

ping apoly-laptop

If I type in \\apoly-server or \\apoly-laptop, it says that it's not accessible and that I do not have permission. But just before I tried that, something new happened. They computers showed up in the network.

So, I guess the problem is solved.... I don't know what changed, though I wish I did.
I can now join the homegroup. Maybe it was the firewall change (I am running ZoneAlarm, though so I am not sure if that affected it).

I honestly do appreciate all your help and your time. Do you know what might have caused the hang up?

It could have been one of the test, without knowing when it happened its hard to say. I'm glad the issue is resolved.
