Greetings to one and all ...
It's bad enough trying to get Windows 7 & XP machines networked together (spent looooong hours trying then found excellent help/tut
HERE ) but recently my other half bought herself an iPad ... then the s**t hit the fan !!
It gets onto the network OK and interacts with the world through the browser ... but that's it ! Printing ?? ... forget it ! Needs a printer which is 'AIRPRINT' compatible ... and mine isn't !
So, after shuffling around the internet for a while, I found a piece of software called 'FINGERPRINT 2' (
here) which is supposed to allow the iPad to print via any PC running the fingerprint 2 software.
Downloaded and installed the software and installed on to the main pc, which is the one running Windows 7, and surprise, surprise it didn't work even after making sure that the Bonjour service was running.
Here's what my network looks like ...
So, I took a spare notepad running XP and plugged it directly into the Superhub then I installed the Fingerprint 2 software onto it and after a reboot ... I was able to print from the iPad using the R360 printer !! Brilliant !!
Problem remains, that I would therefore need to leave the notepad plugged in and switched on all the time to accommodate printing from the iPad ... and that's not very practical or convenient ... but, try as I may, I simply cannot get the iPad to find the printer when the fingerprint 2 software is running on the Windows 7 pc (notepad disconnected) ! I've even installed an app onto the iPad which is a bonjour service sniffer ... it can find the notepad when it's on ... but it simply will not/cannot find the printer/bonjour service on the the main-pc :-(
I've tried everything I can possibly imagine (apart from yanking the main-pc's connection to the access point and plugging it directly into the Superhub ... but the thought of that hassle simply fills me with despair and the even more costly option of buying a new airprint enabled printer sends me suicidal LOL)
I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has managed to hook up an iPad with a Windows 7 machine over a network successfully ... or indeed anyone who may have an insight into the complexities of this situation. :-)
Many thanks in anticipation.
