    Connecting pc to laptop for internet sharing using ethernet


    I want to connect my laptop to desktop to share internet. I want to share my laptops usb modem internet connection with my desktop using lan
    I had gone in the properties of my usb internet connection and then selected to share it with lan under share tab. but on lan adapter of both the computer it says unidentified network
    can somebody please tell me the steps to share my usb modem connection with the lan.
    I am having crossover cable to connect pc to pc
    both are running windows 7 ultimate 32bit.
    Somebody please help..

    Try changing the cable. You shouldn't be using a Cross Over Cable.

    You will want a normal CAT5 network cable.

    Corss over cables are more known for use with configeration of devices.

    You may well need to share the connection of your Local Area Connection on the Laptop. As thats what the computer is connecting to physically. Then see if it will pass through. Im not positive on this though. Maybe someone else can help.

    Sharing wireless USB to Ethernet usually won't work.

    You can only share a wired connection with ICS, or you can set up a hosted wireless "Ad Hoc" network and share the wireless connection that way.

    In all circumstances you would be far better served if you used a router instead of ICS or Ad Hoc.

    Like I said, and as you found out, it won't always work and it's not meant to work this way and that isn't Windows 7 he is working on. :)

    You would have better luck setting up a hosted wireless network but both machines would need a wireless NIC for that to work.

    so this means that with a lan port i can share only wifi connection not usb internet connection

    With a LAN port you can set up ICS, but you need two LAN ports on one machine., one from the modem and the other going to your other machine.

    I assumed the USB connection was wireless.

    no the usb connection to internet is with 3g data card i want this 3g data card connection shared on my computer using lan port.

    but more than 1 year before only i figured out how to share my internet connection via ICS in WIN 7
