The Managed switch should have an IP address, ( so you can manage it )
This is on the same range as your network right? and not on it's own 192.168*.*
It will need to be on the same range as your lan, possibley out of your dhcp range.
This might not be an option on some switches, But the Cisco ones I use at our data centre, certainly has that option.
