Windows 7: Windows does not connect to the internet at startup

Okay, the firewall technique did the trick. I disabled the firewall and rebooted, that didn't work. Then I enabled the firewall again and rebooted. Still didn't work, so i ran windows troubleshooter on both the network card and Internet connections from "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Network and Internet". I don't know what Windows did exactly, but upon rebooting, the problem was not occuring anymore. I rebooted 3 more times, just to be sure, and so far so good.

I owe you thanks and gratitude not just for that, because without wanting to, you've solved another gripe I had with windows 7. By having Network Connections and Network List Service set to automatic, I can now see my other Win 7 computer in the network section in the explorer navigation pane.

So, thank you very much.

Wow. I wouldn't have expected the troubleshooter to work. lol Nice. I believe it is unrelated to disabling and re-enabling the Windows Firewall service. I'll have to remember that sometimes, the troubleshooter can actually work.

Wow. Well I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, so there ya go. I think that Network List Service is the service that's enabling you to see other Windows 7 computers. Network Connections may be unnecessary, so disable it and reboot as an experiment. If it changes anything for the worse, then enable it again.

You're welcome, though. I had a good time. hehe
