Internet Slows During Inactivity

I'm trying to download a 12 gb file and I notice the speed drops down to 30 kb/s when I get off the computer and back to 2 mb/s when I'm active on the computer. Is this some power setting somewhere?

Hello yk7 Just how are you measuring that speed? My machines are just the opposite like when scanning with the AV etc

Have you tried the Florian Gilles speed monitor - it is free and might give you a better idea than what you have got. After the download just sit it on the taskbar.

I'm noticing this when I'm downloading files through Chrome or Steam. The speed is displayed there.

No sorry mate I cannot answer this one as it seems to go against the natural run of things.

But just out of curiosity a look at your machines specs would be handy.

Having said that have a look at this I found http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...8-3cba51e41d22

the second answer in may be of some use.
