Windows 7: HP CP1514n Network Printer

My first post here!

I have a HP CP1514n connected to my PC via a network cable, when I switch the printer on I have to wait for Windows (7 Pro x64) to run through the 'Identifying Network' phase before I can print.

Is there any way I can speed this process up or set something so the printer is available immediately?

I've spent some time trawling the web for an answer with no luck.

Try this turn on the printer first and boot the computer after does it still take time to identify the network?

Just tried that and it was a bit quicker.

However, I don't always use the printer so it typically gets switched on after my PC.

What you have to remember it will take about a minute to boot up it is not instant it has to do it's own post and then request an ip address from the router.

Is it taking an overvely long to connect to the network if so how long?

The connection was quicker, the printer does not go through a router.

If I turn the printer on after the PC it takes 5 minutes before I can print.

How is it connected to the computer using a USB connection?

Personally i would connect the printer to the router it would be better for access from other computers.

Two things to try:

1. Download the latest drivers for your ethernet adapter card from the computer manufacturer's website and install them.

2. Download the latest printer drivers from HP's website for your printer and install them.

The printer is not shared and the PC is wireless to the broadband router itself in a small cupboard.

After trawling the net I have found that I can speed up the process by using the internal web server of the printer and turning off several unused features like Bonjour, IPv6 and LPD printing, the start time is down to 1.5 minutes.

Yes turning off unused features will help and now the time is more reasonable.
