Thought the new driver might have helped with the time factor for internet connection but it's made no difference, otherwise everything is o.k.

Sorry to hear that has not resolved your issue.
With no other computers to test with i cannot determine whether the SH is at fault.
On your computer you could try disabling all startup items that are non-microsoft using msconfig and test whether the connection time is zero'ed then add ten startup items at a time and restarting the computer and checking connection time.
If after disabling all startup items it makes no difference then the problem will not lay there more than likely unless it is a microsoft startup item.
The problem is somewhere in the system. My desktop which is hard wired to a Netgear router boots in 18 seconds but then it needs 2 minutes to connect.
Two laptops in the house that connect via WiFi to the same router, connect immediately. The problem existed already before when I had a Netgear switch and all systems were hard wired - same pattern.
So my conclusion is that there is nothing wrong with the router or the internet, it is a problem in my desktop that I have not yet figured out.
I would accept that explanation except for one important point,When I had the old netgear modem and router connection to the internet was instantaneous with boot up,approximately 30 seconds. The extra 25/30 second delay in making contact with the internet only commenced when I changed to the SH,one of the worst decisions I ever made. Please do not tell me to return to the old gear for the simple reason it is no longer available.
Without testing with other computers connected to the SH cannot confirm the SH is at fault do you not understand that?
All we can look at is the computer as we have no other benchmarks and if it is the SH at fault Virgin are the only ones that can solve that as it is their equipment.
It would appear that TheCyberMan has failed to read my last post or understand it and as I have made arrangements for the problem to be rectified would he please allow this matter to be closed.May I thank all who have helped but there is nothing to be gained by resurrecting a subject which has run it's course. Many thanks to all.
With respect the above does not say you have made other arrangements just tells us about an old setup you had which worked i appreciate.I would accept that explanation except for one important point,When I had the old netgear modem and router connection to the internet was instantaneous with boot up,approximately 30 seconds. The extra 25/30 second delay in making contact with the internet only commenced when I changed to the SH,one of the worst decisions I ever made. Please do not tell me to return to the old gear for the simple reason it is no longer available.
Testing with other computers connected to the SH would give us collaborative evidence of SH being at fault and is important when idenitifying a router that may be at fault.
Sometimes there are incompatibilities between wireless adapters and certain routers that can throw up anomalies such as this.
The SH is probably a netgear with virgin custom firmware installed.

OP did you manage to get your issue solved?
If so, how?
If not I have one final question.
When you are connected does it stay connected for a long time or do you keep losing internet connection?
