    Home network not sharing folders with one computer.


    I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop, all running windows 7. #1 is running 7 professional, #2 is running 7 Home premium, Laptop is running 7 Home premium. All are 64 bit systems.

    #1 can access no files on #2 and only user files on laptop.
    #2 can access all shared files and folders on #1 and laptop
    Laptop can access all shared files and folders on #1 and #2

    All computers have the same workgroup and home network name. The date and time are set exactly the same on all three. I have gone through all the normal steps I can think of. File sharing is on, discovery is on, passwords are off. When I try to open a folder on #2 from #1 I get the message "Windows cannot access \\#2\folder name", "you do not have permission to access \\...\ contact system administrator. I get the same message when trying to open folders in laptop from computer #1. I'm about ready to do a system recover on #1 and start from scratch. Any help will be appreciated.

    I had the same problem, kept trying to figure out why. 24 hours later it just worked. Someone with more knowledge might know the answer, for me it just needed time.

    Check this too:

    HomeGroup uses IPv6 for multicast discovery. If you get error code 0x80632094 when you try and enter a valid password, then check that the IPv6 protocol is checked in the NIC properties. Network and Sharing Center, Change adapter connections, right-click and examine Properties for IPv6. You could also try this registry method:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\

    Add a DWORD, DisabledComponents with a value 0xffffffff, this disables all IPv6 components. Restart the computer now edit 0xffffffff to 0. This enables IPv6.

    You would be far better served by setting up a Homegroup between those Windows 7 machines.

    The only other requirement is to make sure that the C:>Users folder is shared out through the Sharing tab on all machines, this will give you total access to all User files on all machines which are joined to the Homegroup. :)

    The computers are set up in a home group and all files and folders are shared. I played around with IPv6 last night and it didn't seem to make a difference. There is more going on here that I'm just not aware of and I've been stumped for a week now. The only thing I haven't tried is taking computer #1 and disconnecting the ethernet cable and the doing a reset on my gateway and then try hooking #1 up with a wireless adapter.

    You never mentioned having a Homegroup set up but that should make things easier.

    First you should never disable IPv6 and I've never seen it fix anything but I have seen disabling it cause countless problems with services that Windows relies on in order to function.

    If you have any type of third party anti virus or firewall then it's very likely that is the cause of the problem and you will usually need to remove them using the special uninstall tool.

    In some situations you may have problems getting wireless connected Homegroup machines to see other machines, resetting the router might help in those situations, hard to say for sure.

    When in doubt you should leave the Homegroup from all machines then create a new one and rejoin that Homegroup from all machines.

    Most every other Homegroup problem can be fixed by going through the Homegroup trouble shooting guide.
