How to make Windows ignore Wifi when Ethernet is available?

Hello, fellow personal computer enthusiasts !

So, how to make Windows ignore Wifi when Ethernet is available? I had this question and looked for an answer here, naturally. I did not find it. Sorry if the answer's here on sevenforums, I just could not think of the right combination of words to query the googles.

I found plenty of smug forum posts across the internet that said "turn off the wireless adapter" in variously diplomatic ways, but I was looking for a definite configuration that made Windows always prefer wired connections, whether there are wireless connections available or not. I thought this would be the default, actually.

The reason behind this: I sometimes use a desktop machine that has a wireless adapter but no physical switch to toogle it in one gesture, and it seems to prefers Wifi for most of its traffic, even LAN file transfers !

In this thread, I was told/figured out the answer: networking - Make Windows 7 ignore WiFi when ethernet is available - Super User and I thank you, Superusers. I learned about "metric" settings here: An explanation of the Automatic Metric feature for Internet Protocol routes

Here is how one tells Windows to stop using available (remembered - connect when available) wireless connections as soon as a faster, more reliable wired connection - which is a pleonasm - becomes available. I collated the attached graphic guide for my mother and anyone with okay, but non-technical Windows mastery. Maybe a member with more privileges than I might turn this into a tutorial ? It's okay to make it more serious as well

    Cheers

Or.....if you are lucky enough to have a wireless network adapter that supports this feature:

Oh ! Mine doesn't, but maybe the one on the machine that prompted the question does ! I'll check next time I use it, thanks. Much more elegant solution if the option's there.

Alternatively, I found yet another way of addressing the issue on HTG, for those who like to enter commands in the "little black box" How to Change the Priority of Wired/Wireless Network Cards in Windows
