windows 7 pc cant see xp or nas

Hi, I have just replaced a desktop Windows 7 pro pc in place of a win8 pc on my network

The network now has
1 Windows 7 home p 32 bit pc
1 win 7 pro 32 bit pc
1 xp home p 32 bit pc
1 buffalo nas
1 dlink nas
3 printers
media player
secondary router which is wired to my main router, and only ever turned on when wireless access to the net/network is required.

Before the win 7 pro pc was installed, all pcs could talk/print fine. Now the new win 7 pc cant see the xp pc or the nas boxes.

I can ping everything without problem, and the new pc has web access ok.
from search i can see and access all other stuff
The only pc visible from the new win 7 pro pc is the other win 7 pc. They can swap files and carry on a treat between themselves.

Homegroup is DISABLED and the new pc shares the same workgroup name as everything else.
Ive tried a couple of lanscanners on the new pc and they all see everthing else on the network.

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Try accessing the XP computer or NAS from your Windows 7 PC this way:
Click on Start, in Search and Programs Files box type \\IPAddress\SharedFolderName (for ex. \\192.168.1.X\SharedFolderName) then press enter, see if you're able to access the other computer.
You'll have to do an ipconfig/all to obtain the IP Address of the other computer that you're trying to access.

Can you access the NAS from your Windows 7 browser by using its IP Address?

Check your Firewall setting, it might be causing the issue.

Yes as I said in the original post, I can ping the nas boxes and xp pc from the win 7 pc and also a search from the run box accesses the xp pc and nasses. Both win 7 pcs are accessable from the xp pc.

I tried turning off both the firewall and avast, with no difference

Sorry I forgot to say thanks for the reply

To summarize, there's a work around to access the files from XP computer, the only issue that you have is not able to see them in your network.

May I suggest another work around and a lot easier for you to access the files? You may create a shortcut on your desktop where the files are located by using the IP Address or create a shortcut of a map network drive on your desktop. Will this work for you?

Hi, and thanks again.
I have just managed to resolve the problem, everything is accessable from anywhere and is showing in my network list.

I have just learnt that rebooting my router, and then everything else (all pcs again) makes everything as per normal. This is the first time my Asus rt-n16 has done something really strange, but ill certainly remember it.

Thanks again for your suggestions, and its solved
