Internet for Online Gaming in Germany?

    Hi,
I recently moved to Germany and need to know what the requirements are that an internet connection must fulfill so that it is right for playing games like Black Ops 2 online?

    What are the options?

What service providers are good and what is affordable?

What speed should the connection be?

Should the monthly internet be unlimited?

    Thanks!

First, as far as I know all German providers offer only unlimited plans. T-Home (Deutsche Telekom, German Telecom, owners of worldwide T-mobile) was planning a system where there would be a 75GB monthly limit and thereafter slower connection but luckily the politicians blocked the plans.

The German plans quite often include TV, fixed phone line and DSL or VDSL. As an example, we have T-Home VDSL from Deutsche Telekom, 50 Mbps in 10 Mbps out for Internet and the same for IPTV plus fixed phone with unlimited calls to fixed phones and T-mobile mobile phones for about €60 a month, including about 150 SD and 50 HD TV channels. I would first check which cable TV provider you are connected to. If the house you are living gets the cable from Kabel Deutschland, they offer for instance a 100 Mbps line for €20 a month for the first year, €40 from the second year. Kabel Deutschland Startseite: Kabelfernsehen, Internet und Telefon

"Eins & Eins", 1&1 has an excellent price / quality ratio in for instance their 50/10 Mbps packet including fixed phoneline with free calls to German fixed numbers, 1&1 Home Server router with 100GB network storage, up to 4 SIM cards for mobile phones with free mobile surfing, free calls to German fixed numbers and free calls to 1&1 mobiles. Price €30 a month. DSL von 1&1 - Angebote und Tarife für Ihren DSL Anschluss

1&1 also offers a Quick Start Service (Sofort-Start), in most cases if you order in the morning you are surfing the same evening.
