Need to set up small wired network, with wifi access

Ok, here is what I have:
    • workstation with a wireless card
    • laptop with wireless card
    • wireless router

What I would ideally like to do is set up a wired network in which the computers can all share files and have the workstation connect to the internet via wifi and have the laptop create an adhoc wifi network.

    Is this even possible?

Alternately, I would be satisfied If I could network the two machines via ethernet and have them both share a wifi connection.

If it is possible but I cannot accomplish this with what I have, what else do I need?

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Why not connect the workstation to the wireless access point (router) via the wireless card and then do the same for the laptop?

    Thank you.
I don't understand how this will accomplish what I need, which is to have:

    1) both machines connected to each other
    2) have the desktop connected to the Internet
    3) have the laptop broadcast an adhoc network.

Connecting both computers to the router can accomplish item 1.

Assuming that the router has a connection to the Internet, then connecting both computers to the router accomplishes item 2. (Only both computers should be able to connect to the Internet at the same time.)

Why do you need item 3?

What is the brand and model number of the router please?

The router will not be connected to the internet. I do not have access to a wired internet connection, only a wifi internet connection.

I need to create an adhoc network to provide a reliable wireless connection to transfer images from a wifi camera or memory card.

The router is a Netgear N600.

I'll see if others know if this is possible.

Where are you getting your internet feed from, if not through the router? That presumably has a wired connection to the Internet??

To achieve what you are asking you need an additional wireless card in the PC or a crossover lead to connect the PC and laptop.

[It may be possible to switch off all specialist functions in the router and use it as an ethernet switch, but a bespoke crossover cable would be more reliable]

In both cases you would use Internet connection sharing to share the Internet to the laptop.

Note: an adhoc network is a temporary, device to device, connection for file sharing, nothing to do with sharing internet connections
