    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64

The posted solution works for many, but there are still an equal number of users for whom the solution has not worked, and who have requested additional support.

Anyone who has come across an alternate solution, please post for those of us still doing everything to troubleshoot this issue. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem. "idstore.sst" was deleted from the PeerNetworking folder, but was not recreated upon restarting. Same error code when attempting to start PNRP. Would it be possible for someone with a functioning idstore file to upload it for download? I don't know how else to recreate the file, or if that will even fix the problem.
I too am having this same problem and have done the same as "al3x3691" with the same results, still not working. I am attempting to use my laptop and my desktop to establish my connection and my laptop Win7 64bit tells me it cannot remove it from the homegroup. My desktop has been removed from the homegroup, using Win7 Ultimate SP1 32bit.

ANY help would be of GREAT assistance to many of us Newbies, Unknowings, Dummies, et ceteras . . .

    TIA, CU L8R,

for those that can't see the file

This fix worked for me as all the others that deleted the file.

At first i couldn't find the folder, so I did a search for the filename and it showed up, even though i couldn't browse to the folder. Then, I right clicked on the search result and deleted the file.

The reason you can't see the file is because it is a system file, which is hidden by default. To unhide system files, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Folder Options. Under the View tab, there is a yellow folder under advanced settings with two options. Choose "show hidden files, folders, and drives. Hope this helps!

    "danko15"

Use the feature from 'Control Panel/Folder Options/[Tab] View select 'Advanced Settings, Hidden files and folders that, like you mentioned, are hidden by default and change to Show hidden files, folders and drives.' After making any other changes click the OK radio button.

I did find the folder and that file removed said file, yet it still will not work for me. Still awating more info from someone that knows much more than I. I am very glad that it worked for you and hope you have many more successes.

Maybe the next method will work (also for removing the computer from a Homegroup):
    1. Delete all files in directory C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys. You also can rename this directory (p.e. in 'MachineKeys.old') and create a new directory 'MachineKeys'. To delete the files in the directory you need certain administrator rights. Eventually you can download from internet a (register)file to get the needed rights for deleting a file. Search in Google ‘Take Ownership windows 7 download’. I suppose you have to activate the 'Take Ownership' routine for each file you want to delete. If you have the needed rights, delete the files in the directory 'MachineKeys'.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Start the Troubleshooter Homegroup (Configurationscreen -> Homegroup). (I don't know what's the real name of the program and it's location in english). Choose within the troubleshooter also the network control option, if you are asked so.
    4. Start services.exe. For instance by pressing the Start-button on the left lower corner in the taskbar. Typ ‘services’ in the searchwindow ‘Programs and files search’ and press [ENTER].
    5. Choose op ‘Services (lokaal)’.
    6. Start in the following order the services:
    - Peer Networking Identity Manager
    - Peer Name Resolution Protocol
    - Peer Networking Grouping
You can start the services by clicking the right mousebutton, while standing on the service, and choose for 'Start'. (When the service isn't started already).
Next follow some extra steps to delete the homegroup, if you want so.
    7. Try to delete the homegroup from the computer. If that doesnt work yet, run once again the Trouble Shooter Homegroep (inc. network control). Perhaps you can remove the computer bu then from the homegroup. At least as you want to do so.

Deleting the "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking\idstore.sst" file solved it for me too. Thanks for the quick solution. Some "experts" advised re-installing windows 7... yeah right.
