    Unable to create/join HomeGroup

    G'day,

I have recently tried to create a HomeGroup on my Win 7 Home Premium machine and it is not possible for some reason. When opening the "Network and Sharing" section and then clicking on "HomeGroup", I get a message stating that "This computer can't connect to a HomeGroup". Running the troubleshooter doesn't help. Looking in "Administrative Tools>services", I see two HomeGroup entries; HomeGroup Provider and HomeGroup Listener. Trying to start these services results in error windows popping up. (see below) I also note that there is no HomeGroup icon in my Explorer tree. Can anyone help with this? I thank you up front.

    Cheers,
    Fritz

If the Homegroup icon doesn't show up in the network tree then something is pretty messed up here.

Try running the sfc/scannow command from an elevated command prompt and see what it comes up with.

Thanks, Chev, I was afraid of something strange when I didn't see the HomeGroup icon. Might there be a way to restore it? Unfortunately, I don't even know what an "elevated command prompt" is, much less how to run the scan you mention. Appreciate your help, though.

Well, I did all that Chev advised and running the sfc /scannow command did find and repair some errors and I now see the Homgroup icon in my network tree. Unhappily, I still can not create or join a Homegroup. More patience is required. I will keep you posted.

    Cheers,

Thanks much, but I have tried all that and nothing helps. I still get exactly the same error messages as in my first post. Oh, well, it's hardly the end of the world.

Try running the sfc/scannow repair a couple more times, it may be able to fix more problems.

After that try going through the Homegroup trouble shooter, it may help you discovery other problems.
