Only FireFox (and a handful of other programs) can connect!

    Hi!
Only Firefox connects to the internet. Other browsers and many programs cannot connect to the internet. Nor can I update Java or Flash or install new software that requires an internet connection.
I've tried many things, including refreshing netsh winsock and winhttp in command prompt didn't change anything. running an sfc scan returned no results. I feel like the problem is with winhttp or winsock since many programs use this as the default just like IE Explorer does, but I'm not too knowledgeable in the subject.
When navigating to proxyenable in regedit, I found it was already set to 0. I also noticed a "proxyhttp1.1" (set to 1) and a "proxyserver" (set to an address that looks like an ip address followed by :80). I've tried to rename proxyserver to OLDproxyserverOLD and restarted, but nothing changed.

I'm not sure what this all means, but I do know that this problem has stumped me.

Thank you in advanced for any help =)

Click on and then click Control Panel.

Click Network and Internet, and then click Internet Options.

In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Connections tab.

    Click the LAN Settings button.

See if there is a check next to the box for Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections) and a check next to Bypass proxy server for local addresses

If you don't use a proxy then there shouldn't be a check next to those boxes

    Hi Vista King!
Thanks for the response! I'm running Windows 7 for the record.
Yes, I've tried tampering with the settings, but that hasn't helped. Right now "Automatically detect settings" is checked. My desktop computer, running Windows XP correctly, has nothing checked.

    Click on Download Now button

When the download is complete . Drag the DDS program from the Downloads folder to your Desktop

Double click the DDS icon on the Desktop then click the Run button to run the tool.

Place a check next to attact.txt and click Start . When done, DDS will open two logs
    DDS.txt
    Attach.txt

Save two logs onto your desktop and upload them with your reply

    Hi VistaKing!
I trust you and I've done what you've asked! Attached are the two logs.
They have quite a bit of information in them! Is this a program you've written?
Anyway, I'd love to know what you get from them.
    Thanks a lot
