Windows 7: Computer can't join home group.

Computer can't join home group.

Both computers running windows 7 professional, removed antivirus and firewall from both. Both networked on home network settings . I created the group on my laptop and my desktop sees it but just hangs when trying to join it.

I cannot get my desktop to see nor create a home group, the system just lags with no result.

Comcast cable modem with a wifi router installed. I think it's a issue with the wifi router blocking something or maybe I need to do a clean install.

Tp link wr841n.

Are you sure that the Comcast cable modem isn't a modem/router combo unit?

If so there are some adjustments to the secondary router that will fix the problem.

It's the Motorola sb5100 that's only a cable modem, I had to buy a cheap wifi router to use my laptop on the Internet. It's something with the wifi router or maybe the cable modem itself.

Something is blocking my desktop from creating a home group but it sees the group I created on my laptop. Just wont connect to it.

Ok good, in that case try going through the Homegroup trouble shooting list in the link below.

Also make sure that the cable modem is plugged into the routers WAN or internet port not one of the LAN ports.

It sounds like some of the required Windows services aren't enabled so I would check those carefully.

Were they disabled when you checked them?

Have you tried running the sfc/scannow command?

Both were on manual, running scan now command right now. I k kw it's something with the wifi. Is there a setting on the wifi router that's maybe causing this?

I'd have to see the ipconfig/all from the WiFi connected machine and the ipconfig/all from the other machine in order to see if there is a gateway or subnet problem.

Cannot get computer to join proper home network
I recently had to re-install Win 7 Home Premium on my desktop computer. In the setup, it apparently chose to join "Network," which is not the name of the network it was on prior to the reinstall. My laptop is on that other network, which for this discussion I'll call "Something 4". I know I can...
