Library's and the Homegroup aren't really made to work with Vista. Vista doesn't use Library's, it uses My Video's, My Documents etc. which aren't the same as a Library type of folder.

It's easier to leave the Homegroup on the Windows 8 or Windows 7 machines then use the Workgroup for sharing between those two machines.

You just need to ensure that all machines in this network are using the same name for the Workgroup, sharing needs to be enabled through the sharing tab of the C:>Users folder and Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing etc. need to be turned on in the Advanced Sharing settings.

You might be able to get the Vista machine access to the Library's by adding the "Everyone" access to the specified Library per the picture below. I haven't tested this with a Vista machine so not sure if this will work or not.

This down level sharing tutorial may be helpful, this should allow you to keep the Homegroup and still have access from the Vista machine.

Homegroup - Leave

Workgroup Name - View and Change
