No signal strength icon in sym tray

Have W-7 x64 desktop computer that connects to the wireless router with a WirelessN PCIexpress adapter.
The icon used to show in the system tray showing the signal strength. It has now disappeared and is no longer in the 'Notification Are Icons'. I am sure I did something, but cannot figure out what
Any ideas how I can retrieve it?
Thanks in advance

So are you saying that it doesn't show up when you select "Show all icons" as shown here,

Notification Area Icons - Hide or Show System Icons and Notifications

In the Notifications Icon List, click on Turn system icons on or off.
Make sure the Network icon is set to On.
