    FTP server need help!

Guys i wanted to set up a ftp server and i have looked up many tutorials on how to do it and i tried doing it but the problem is that when i type in ftp:// and the ip address of the hosting server computer the window pops up for username and password and whenever i enter the username and password the window just keeps going in a loop by erasing what i wrote after i hit enter. ( I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TO ADD RULES IN THE HOSTING SERVER COMPUTER AND I DID BUT IT STILL WONT WORK)

What ftp server are u using? I recommend that you use IIS FTP server and filezilla as ftp client.

Are you doing this just on a local subnet or to the public internet? Is this possibly behind a NAT device like a home router? It's possible that you don't have all of the correct ports forwarded to your server. I'm more familiar with Filezilla where the windows firewall needs to have exceptions in place, I'm assuming IIS configures your firewall for you.

Before setting up an Internet accessible server be sure to check with your ISP first. Many ISPs will not permit operating a server with a standard account.

I would recommend making firewall exceptions for the ports needed versus disabling it entirely. These will vary depending on your configuration ( SFTP, FTPS ) and remember to forward ports on whatever router you have, don't disable the firewall on that one, it's your real line of defense against the public internet!
