Low Wi-Fi Signal (2 or 3 Bars), Usually getting 4 or 5 Bars! - Sky BB

I'm on Sky Broadband for those curious

For the last few days my signal strength has been all over the place. Last week for instance, I'd have a solid 5 bar signal strength but all of a sudden I'm getting two or three bars strength.

At first I thought it was an issue with my router but I've changed the wireless channel multiple times and gone through the various steps the Sky Broadband help page points out

Anyway of fixing this issue at all on my end via my computer as such? I'm getting 4/5 bar strength on my phone but not on my computer over Wi-Fi

Also, it might be an issue or not, I'm not sure but everytime I launch the game Guild Wars 2, it says I'm logging in with a unnauthorized IP address. This isn't a hacking attempt mind you but the IP location keeps jumping from Leeds to Bradford to Sheffield and at one point Covent Gardens. Dunno if it's relevant to the issue at all but I just thought I'd mention it.

I'm using an antenna that came with my ASUS P8Z77-V Pro Motherboard and I'm using the ASUS Wi-Fi drivers in order for it to work. It looks a bit like this:

As I said I've had no issues at all with it in the last few months, it's only till now I've experienced these issues. Same applies for the IP/Guild Wars situation above

    Hi EvilPengy,

Have you also changed the location of the system as well? Also, kindly check the system under safe mode with networking:

    Safe Mode

If it works fine then perform a clean boot to isolate the software causing the issue:

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

As, you mentioned the issue started with the system recently then you can also perform the system restore to check:

    System Restore

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Tried in Safe Mode w Networking, Same Scenario there too. Log in, 4 bar strength, drops to 3 then lingers between 2-3 bar strength

Location settings on my computer are fine too, it's always been set to UK from the start.

    Hi EvilPengy,

Does the download speed as well drops intermittently while usage as the bar drops. Which firewall you have installed on the system can we disable the same for isolating if it is the cause of the issue?

There might be some updates that caused this issue so have you tried performing the system restore suggested earlier.

Also, if you have a USB wireless card that we can check on this system to isolate the issue. Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

    Hi All,

Is there a solution to this problem. The same thing happened to me, all of a sudden signal strength degraded from 5 to 1/2 bars. Have tried replacing the wireless card, re-installing the driver but to no use. PLEASE HELP!!!
