    Homegroup or network share

I have two windows 7 desktop and a laptop both connected using home group.
Well the problem is that the home group don't always work there are occasions that I have to re enter my password into the home group setup.
Now thinking of going for the network setup,On the network icon on the left under my computer i can access my desktop and my wireless printer from there and access my laptop from my desktop and printer by using the network system
Now is there anything that I should know about this system of accessing files etc from my desktop via laptop??.
I also have an USB port on my Bright box router was thinking about connecting a HDD to that so could access that from both machines,According to the Bright box info its okay.
    Any help here Please.
    Many Thanks.

Either method works fine although you shouldn't have to keep entering the Homegroup password, something sounds off there.
