Hi arcadian13,

Welcome to Seven forums.

It should not be showing the second router. Please update your network drivers on the system and let us know if it helped in resolving this issue.

Also, check it on a different system and let us now if the similar issue occurs there as well.

Kindly update your system specs here by following this.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Hi arcadian13.

I appreciate the time and effort that you took to troubleshoot the issue. It seems to be a malware or infection issue on the system. Kindly run malware bytes and ensure there are no infections on the system:

Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

Check the system under safe mode with networking and let us know if the issue occurs there as well:

Safe Mode

Also, perform SFC scan to ensure all files are correctly installed on the system:

SFC/SCANNOW

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Thanks once again for the suggestions

Malwarebytes: ran it, no infections

Safe mode: the system icon still has the wrong router name

Ran sfc /scannow: no system violations

Windows does this all the time, it tends to misidentify hardware on a regular basis, mine typically shows a WNR100V3 router and I don't have that router, it also shows my gateway router correctl

Sometimes it even shows a Nokia phone connected when there isn't one there.

We get these types of complaints all the time so it's a common problem with no real solution.

It does not mean that someone has hacked into your system.

I have never seen this before; am nto so worried about being hacked, just very puzzled. Had not mentioned that with the same laptop I could not map a network drive without using the IP of the drive. Hoping that if the two problems are connected, then the mapping problem will go away. But thanks for sharing your thoughts

Maybe the tutorial will help with the network mapping problem.

Thanks chev65, tried all those things, and on the (separate or connected ) problem, no luck mapping to my external drive without using it's IP.

Hi arcadian13,

Thanks for your reply. It seems to be a weird issue. Have you tried changing the SSID name on the router and check if it works for us.

I agree with chev65 on this one it doesn't seem to be an issue about the system being hacked. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.
