Is it possible for me to get wired internet in a wifi shared building?

Im an american that relocated to canada to play online poker. Internet is very important to me. First place i stayed at... the internet was wifi... very very bad and unreliable. Moved to another apartment and was told internet here in this building is very fast in montreal, uses videotron. Well many times the internet has problems and doesn't connect or works but it disconnects on and off or is very very slow, basically doesn't work. Thing is when i was looking for an apartment, i have to look for a furnished place and of course internet. Some places they told me the internet has both wired internet and wireless. I prefer wired b/c its more reliable.

At this building, internet is wireless wifi and shared between 16 apartments. I use the internet more than anyone im pretty sure. People here probalby just go online very little a day but to me, i need it on all day.

The router is about 1 floor when i go down the stairs. Its basically in this room where there are 2 routers there and 2 connections. I was told if internet is ever slow or doesn't work, just go there and unplug the router wait 1 minute then plug it back in. I did that last time and it worked but didn't work that well and i had to wait a while for the wifi to work.

My quesiton is, is there a way for me to get wired internet? I know some apartments here in montreal have option of wired as well. I wonder how this would be even possible. I mean, is each apartment given a router and a modem inside the apartment? Or would they have to connect a wire from the modem in the apartment to the router outside the apartment?

I know you can call and have wired internet installed from a company but probably is i only need it for few months and i think many only do 1 year contracts? Does anyone know what other options i have?

I think the other option is to get a wireless internet stick and use that if my wifi doesn't work? Again my building is a bunch of apartments that are all furnished and everything with cable tv and internet and electricity. I had moved here b/c i was told the internet was very fast and reliable but its not that reliable. I dont even care about speed that much, i just cannot have disconnections.

    Thoughts?

The fact that residents have access to the router at any time would be a big concern for me personally in terms of security especially if I was doing online poker. I take it the routers are small Linksys or smaller types of routers rather than enterprise grade? 16 apartments sharing the same wireless signal with potentially multiple devices in an apartment! That will simply kill any end user wireless router. Since you technically aren't authorised to change anything I cannot offer any support that would require configuration changes on the router end.

Do any other people suffer the same issue? Do you receive any disconnections on public WiFi? This can help determine if your machine is the issue or the supposedly throttled wireless network.

When obtaining a wired apartment, you will normally get an RJ45 hole in the wall with a cable to which you can then connect a single device or router for network connectivity. You will not need a modem at all. Your wired connection will pass through the building where your bandwidth will be controlled and then routed to the internet.
