sharing folders (not using homegroups)

    Sure they ping each other by name (not by ip address) without problems?

    Can win7 access shares on other machines (except vista machine)? Borrow a laptop and test

    No idea yet what is wrong. Did it work before? How long do you have this problem? Did you install something related?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\HwOrder
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order

    Those registry keys have name ProviderOrder in the pane to the right. It its value: RDPNP,LanmanWorkstation,webclient ??

    in windows file explorer addressbar. Do it and post screenshot with error and addressbar visible
