Using Windows Remote Assistance with Windows 7 Home Premium

I was unable to use Windows Remote Assistance to connect my Windows 7 (32-bit) Home Premium to a distant computer running Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Premium. After several failed attempts, I switched to Avast Remote Assistance and was able to connect with no problem. I can't explain why Avast worked and Windows did not. Except for bit versions, the two operating systems are the same. For purposes of Windows Remote Assistance, are 32-bit and 64-bit systems known to be incompatible?

Have a look at the red box at the top of this tutorial,

Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) - Network

Basically your host has to be Seven Pro or above to host.

The Windows PC needing assistance must first check that incoming Remote Assistance is enabled, see screenshot below. Only then can an invitation be sent to you and you can connect to this remote computer using Easy Connect or an invitation file and password. On your invitation simply click Use Easy Connect.

@ Derek: Remote Assistance is possible from Home Premium, Remote Desktop not. Remote Assistance does not use RDP.

No probs, Derek. Although based on RDP the Remote Assistance does not directly use it, allowing also the lesser Windows editions to use it.

As we didn't have a tutorial on Remote Assistance, I decided to make one. Got it ready just now: Remote Assistance - Use in Windows

Nice job on the new tutorial! Will certainly save time not having to search the Internet for this. Appears EightForums could benefit from this, as well.

It's marked as valid for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 so according to existing standards our admins will include it on the tutorials list on Eight Forums.
