    Network-accessable-storage incorrectly marked unavailable

I recently installed a small network-accessible-storage drive - a WD MyBookLive. When Windows starts up it seems to take a long time to connect to the drive, and I get an alert saying the drive is unavailable. (I don't remember the wording.) This is fine since the device eventually comes online. But sometimes (like right now) my desktop shortcut to the drive is left with a big red X through it:

Edit: I see my screen capture of the the icon did not make it into the posting. But I think my description is enough: A drive icon covered by a big red X.

The drive is accessible; I have access to all the files I should. Is there some way to tell Windows to update its icon? This is obviously not a very big problem, but I tend to panic when I see the X out of the corner of my eye.

I should probably add that in the list of drives shown under Computer, the drive (under Network Location) is not marked as inaccessible - only the the desktop icon is.

What happens if you click on the desktop and press F5 (refresh) ?

The desktop blinks as everything is refreshed, but the big red X stays. (And the drive remains accessible in spite of the X.)
