Can a virus delete files on mapped network drive?

I have a computer on the LAN with a bunch of HDDs in it. My main computer has the computer mapped as a network drive. I put my video projects on mapped network drives. Can a virus find the network drive through my computer and delete all of the files or ransomware encrypt it?

I see that the thread is marked as solved...
...but I'll add more info anyway (now that I have the time).

I have cleaned up after an infection that damaged files on a network drive. The last such infection struck a non-profit org that I support. That infection deleted every picture file (and every EXE file) and replaced each with a copy of the infected file. This was done in the hopes that others on the network would attempt to open the "picture" (or start an app) and end up infecting their computer to.

If (for example) the original image file was named family.jpg, then the malware would copy itself to a file named family.jpg.exe. By default, W7 will hide the EXE file extension. I would suggest that users show file extensions: File Extensions - Hide or Show
