Can't turn off password protected sharing

Been trying to do this for a couple of hours now,but it just
wont turn off.As soon as i turn it off and then check back again
    it's turned back on.
I now this is quite a common problem and i've tried quite a few fixes
but nothing will turn it off.
My last attempt was using Winshare manager i got all the folders
showing yes yes and i clicked the registry fix but still no joy.
I'm using a wireless connection and trying to get my media server
the Mede8erx3d1000 to show folders on the pc,but it just goes straight
into asking for user name and password instead of showing the folders on
    the pc.
Thanks for any help with this problem.

There might be some program running in the background preventing it from turning off. Please try a Clean Boot to see if that will eliminate that problem. Its also possible the media server is forcing it back on. Check both of their settings.

    Clean boot:

Can you check that Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing are staying turned on?

This is the usual problem I see with these settings not staying on, this indicates that the Base Filtering Engine has been corrupted and requires repair.

It looks like disabling or adding a password to the Guest account causes this problem but who really knows.

First post in the following link by Gloria shows a possible fix that is working for some people.

Hi chev65,Tried following Gloria's tutorial but i don't seem to have the option "local users and groups"
i suspect her instructions are for Vista os being as the year shows 2009.
I need the same instructions which are for Windows 7 home premium 32bit.

Yes with Home Premium it's a bit different. From what I have read It still has to do with the Guest account so maybe the following link will help, it's for windows 8 but I think it's the same.
