Unable to share drives: error 0x00000154

    Win7 sp1 x64
using hidden admin account (super admin)

When I try to enable sharing of partitions (drive letters) I get this error. I tried it on different drive letters, but the same thing. I searched for this using the error message but no meaningful results.

How are you trying to share the drives? Sharing tab, Security tab?

Basic Requirements Before Posting your Networking Thread

    System Specs

It goes faster if the info is there at the beginning. Saves a lot of Q&A about hardware etc..

Sorry, but all of that really has nothing to do with the question since I can't get to 1st base. It's not hardware related. The network can see the PC from another machine, I can log into the PC, but it doesn't show any drives since none are shared.
I didn't ask about accessing the network or the Internet. The error message is during the process, not after the fact. I can access the Internet ok.

One think that I did forget is I'm using the "Workgroup" setting, not Homegroup.
    .

How are you trying to share the drives?
Right click on the drive letter, then advanced sharing. After I name the share and set permissions, then click ok, I get the useless error message.

What services and/or components would be involved? I believe something is missing, though the list in "Service's" is what normally is running.

What does the "154" refer to?

Ok you aren't really giving me details on how these drives were shared.

Right click drive letter then advanced isn't the full path, remember details, I need those to help.

If that is all you did then the drive wasn't shared correctly and I have no idea what the error message means. I can only show you the correct way to share a drive.

Please follow the directions in the link to share the Users folder of the drive which is the proper way to share the contents of a drive. Now if you need full access to all files, including system files you would need to do this from the actual drive letter rather than the Users folder.

The drives are not shared, hence the error message. After I go through the procedure in the bottom row in that post, I get the error message.

What other information do you need?? This is the 'Pro' version, not Home.

Did you make any adjustments to any of the sharing tab or security tab settings at the C: drive location?

If you can't share from the default location which is C:\Users then none of the Users folders will be sharable so most likely something is overriding the default setting.

If the C: drive settings aren't default they may be overriding the settings you are trying to apply at the C:\Users folder.

Are you sure about the error number? I ask because it corresponds to:
"The supplied kernel information version is invalid."
