Hello and welcome gvmsia mate I am a little confused as to what it is you are asking but for starters I would run these

    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < DO NOT run on a SSD

    then these

    http://www.superantispyware.com/

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

download from bleeping computer > delete any rubbish it throws up.

Then you might look at the machines wifi device driver for updating

my problem is that i cannot access the internet on that pc using the tplink wifi usb adapter. if i plug in an old belkin adapter of mine, all works fine (but the belkin has a BSOD problem)

may i know what do i update from the gigabyte website... isnt the wifi adapter driver from tplink, not gigabyte?

i have just finished scannow and it says it didnt find any problems.

Yep I was thinking more of the chipset and the LAN drivers from Giga matebecause the board has to communicate through that USB device if these do notsort it then we might have to look at other stuff.

It could be that you have unfortunately got a bad USB device - can you cable the machine?

oops i wrote the specs for the wrong pc in my profile. anyways i've updated it and both my pcs have gigabyte motherboards. i will update those u mentioned.

in the meantime i have run superantispyware as mentioned earlier. it came back with 400+ threats but all were cookies.

i cant run a cable to this pc coz its in another part of the house, far from the modem router.

below is a screenshot of the pc with the problem usb wifi adapter

Ok well did the ADW come up with anything? While I am thinking of it anything to do with torrent stuff makes me crawl to be honest I just get bad vibes even thinking of that stuff but I suppose if one knows what they are doing then it is a personal choice.

One you could run is this Free Malware Removal Tools scroll down to the TDSS Killer and run it doesn't take long and will rule out that particular avenue of malware.
