Problem with wireless adapter or access point

I have a strange issue with my wireless connection from a Dell Inspiron laptop, model n5050. I'm using windows 7 home premium and to the best of my knowledge the wireless adapter seems to be a dell wireless 1701 802.11b/g/n

Basically the problem is that I cannot connect to my wireless network from the laptop for around thirty minutes, it keeps telling me that there is a problem with the wireless network adapter or access point when I troubleshoot it. I live in an apartment and. I know that as well as my own there are a few other wireless connections around. However, none of them show up.

Then approximately thirty minutes later it will find my network, connect to it fine and then all is well until I turn off the laptop. It never drops out or loses connection once it finally connects to it. The other wireless networks from other members in the apartment block are also now visible.

Furthermore I have another computer, playstation and mobile phone which connect to the network without a hitch and no delays so the problem seems to be just with the laptop. I've also had the same problem with my laptop at my parents house which probably rules out it being a router issue.

On top of that I have just restored my laptop to factory settings in case I had caused some kind of conflict and the problem still remains.

At this point I'm assuming its a hardware issue but just wondering if someone can advise me otherwise, I find it very odd that when it does finally connect that it never loses the connection.

EDIT: I forgot to add that everything was fine until around ten days or so, I've been using the same setup with the same devices and Internet provider, router etc for well over a year or so. The problem occurred overnight with no warning.
