Reinstalled Windows 7 and lost connection - help!

Reinstalled Windows 7 and now I can't establish an internet connection.

I don't mean to sound as though I am trying to wriggle out of starting over, but before I proceed to the installation process I thought I should mention that I managed to establish an internet connection several times last night.

On a whim I decided to play around with the homegroup troubleshooter which then prompted me to try the network troubleshooter and somehow or another I was able to connect again that way. I'm not sure why it didn't do the same whenever I tried troubleshooting the connection from the system tray, not unless it has something to do with homegroup. So I'm really not sure if I have homegroup set up correctly (my other computer which is hooked directly to modem has Windows 8 on it, so I'm not sure if there are any known Windows 8 conflicts) or if that should even be a factor, but what happened is since I had an internet connection I went ahead and installed my updates. Naturally, I was prompted to restart so that windows can proceed to configure updates. Updates were configured but whenever I signed back in there was no longer an internet connection.

I managed to reestablish the connection a couple times but each time I had to reinstall all 128 updates. So the last time I established internet connection prior to going to bed I set it to download all 128 updates again and went on to bed. I haven't been able to reconnect to the internet at all today. Also, I should probably note that this all took place using the iso I downloaded from the tutorial (from this site). I am somewhat curious if windows firewall isn't blocking my wifi signal.

Anyways, I keep getting sucked into 'troubleshooting my connection problem' when most likely I should start over again. I told myself I would give it a few hours and post here first. So what do you guys think?

This thread is a sibling of Reformat gone bad - please help

I advised arayfo1 to open a new thread for the connection issue.

    The resoultion paths are
re-install & test connectivity, fix connectivty if needed
    or
fix connectivity, reinstall ONLY if unresolved.

I think I might have confused arayfo1 by the options. Hope this clears it up.

I've just tried disconnecting my wifi connection on my mobile phone and reentering the passkey and it reconnected to the network with no problem whatsoever. That tells me the router is acting as it should. Also, on the site where I downloaded this version of Windows 7 there were a few people complaining that they had no internet connection. They seemed to think they were missing important internet drivers. I'm not sure if I am having a driver issue or not. Before I went to bed last night I restored my backup which was an image of drive c prior to reformatting it. I assumed that might download whatever drivers I am missing. I don't know what else to do except for maybe find a different version of Windows 7 to download and start over. Thoughts?
That sounds to me a TORRENT download.

arayfo1 stated that it was Piratebay, but has since cleaned that up.

After a few troubling attempts in the 'parent' thread I think arayfo1 has eveerything in place (Upgrade disc, drivers on flash, backups done) to reinstall.

I just suggested (VM) that the cleanest path to solving the issue (reinstall with disc) be taken. We'll have to wait and see what OP wants to do

Nice work......I think its good that SlatyBart takes the lead there. Having too many helpers seems to have caused some confusion.

Well, I have both the torrent download as well as the tutorial download still currently on my pc. I'm not sure how to uninstall the torrent download other than reformatting with a 3rd reinstall (if it comes to that).

Thanks, Golden. Slardybart is doing a good job. I appreciate all of your help, Guys. I'm actually a bit tickled a forum like this exists, because otherwise I would likely be shopping for a new download right now.

I guess I'll give it another half hour and if no one else suggests a solution to my network problem I will attempt to reinstall with the upgrade disk.

Before I go eat, do you have a cell phone with a camera, or a digital camera?

Since you don't have internet on that machine, you could take pictures of what is on the monitor and use the Win8 machine to post them here. That would help a LOT when you have a question and someone wants to see what you see.
