ipv6

anyone know lots about ipv6?
Its apparently added into this newer edition of the cisco course im taking, lot of emphasis on it. I mean i know the advantages on it and stuff, its just hard, memorizing all the ipv4 stuff and then all of the ipv6 stuff plus all of the commands for everything and learning how to deal with servers and all the different protocols. phew so much...
just wondering if ipv6 is really acknowledged about? It seems to have a lot of advantages, but yet the switch-over is slow and some people dislike it, idk why though.

IMO, I have a cable modem that supports IPv6 but my router doesn't support it. For many who wants IPv6, they must have a router that supports IPv6. Also, I heard that some ISP are still doing trials with it and the best method you have is 6to4 tunneling which apparently is much slower than IPv4. Well, I'll wait for 5 more years until they sort it out and IPv6 is standard feature on every router.

yea, at my high school we have a1500 dollar budget between comptia+class and a cisco class. We have a course on ipv6, but the routers we practice on dont support ipv6.... we are three generations behind, so its a no-go on actual real world practice. And yea, my textbook predicts that in 2015 ipv6 will start taking off more, because of hosts:ipv4 address ratio. Anyhow yea there are all these ipv4 -->ipv6 protocols and its all sorta messy. I think the trend is to do as you stated, and for your reason. Its just annoyingly hard to learn, both at the same time. but hey, future-proof aint bad. Honestly though, i dont see the benefits in home users using ipv6.
