    wifi mac address

I cant change mac address, to specific mac address.

I can only change it if first numbers are 12-1E-58-AB-B1-77.

But address I need is starting with 00-**-**-**-**-**.

Why is that. All other OS - windows xp, linux, mac os, no problem.

Vista and windows 7 giving me pain.

Tried in Registry, and in device config. Tried many mac changing tools like t-mac, smac...

It only accepts address if first two numbers are 12. Why the he** is that.

There is no address that is starting with 12 - it is so frustrating and fanny in the same time.

Mac addys are hard coded on the nic/card. first six numbers are MFR, last six unique. Why would you "need" a string starting with 00?

Mac addys are not in REGISTRY, not in Device manager, Not in anywhere but the card.

If you tell me why I might be able to help with something else but without info I cant help

I em changing mac address in windows xp, with any mac address i want with no problem, and in windows 7 there is the same option and everything is the same, byt you cant chnge it if first numbers are not 12.

Now I em asking why in windows 7 you cant change first two numbers, it only changing if it is first 12 and than anything.

My card is tp-link 551g - chipset is ar5005. my default mac address is 00-14-78-ab-b1-77.

I nead another address starting with 00-1e-58-ab-b1-77.

And it wont change to any address if not starting with 12.

it remains original address - 00-14-78-ab-b1-77.

In xp I can change to anything.

And we are using the same mac address. I only asking why win 7 cant do the same as xp.

There are freeware utilities that will allow you to alter MAC addresses under Vista. They will probably work under Windows 7. Google will help you find them.

I do not think so, no luck with google. Nothing works in windows 7, it works if you put first two numbers 12.

And cant take screen shots, i em writing this from linux.

All relevant stuff about this problem is---
    - Tp-link 551g - ar5005 atheros.
    - Windows 7 ultimate x64
    - Dual boot with mandriva linux - not relevant
    - core 2 duo processor
    - Nvidea 9600 gso
    - p5nd motherboard
    - 2gb - 800mhz ram

Quite a few 7 users have reported complete success with Mac MakeUp. However, it will be much easier if you just tell us what you have tried, what applications you've tried, instead of us trying to guess.

    Tried -

    - t-mac
    - smac
    - macmakeup
    - tried manual in registry with reg edit
    - tried in wifi card config like in xp, but in xp it works good.

All those programs working in the same way, they are inserting in registry numbers that I insert in them.

    And of story.

Do you know what is preventing first numbers to change, if you do not know that, I do not think that it will be possible to do anything.

I believe it's related to the Windows 7 architecture and the way drivers are written. Have you tried using XP or Vista drivers, and installing them in compatibility mode? I've read that people have had some success doing that.

You know, if you buy a router and clone the MAC address of your friend's computer, you will both have internet and not have to worry about changing your MAC address.
