By the way, what a great forum this is. As a new member I hardly had to wait an hour before 2 people offered suggestions.
Before this I joined windowsforum.com. After 48 hours 90 people had viewed my question, not a single reply or Hello.
I know where to come from now on for Windows 7 Help.

My set up is that the cable comes in my house to a Hub/Router, then connected by ethernet to my PC.
I have tried to look everywhere on my system for anything to do with a wifi connection but cannot see it. I guess I will have to live with it. It 's no great problem just annoying that i can't see where to switch it off/on when I want!
If it's connected via Ethernet to the computer, then it would not show as a wireless connection in "Network Connections".

What do you have showing in your Network Connections? Disabling your Ethernet connection should kill the network connection.

Do you mean in Network and sharing centre? If I disable the Ethernet connection then I will have no internet connection at at all?
When you say Network Connections what exactly do you mean?

I'm saying that if you only have an Ethernet cable connected to your computer from the hub, then you do not have a wireless connection. It will show up as an Ethernet connection in "Network Connections" below instead.

See link: Network Adapter (NIC) - Enable or Disable in Windows

Brink,

1. "I'm saying that if you only have an Ethernet cable connected to your computer from the hub, then you do not have a wireless connection. It will show up as an Ethernet connection in "Network Connections" below instead."

I think there may be some mistake, perhaps on my part explaining my problem.Yes I am connected to the internet via an ethernet,so no i am not connected on a wireless connection as would be the case with a laptop/tablet. My point is I want to be able to turn off the wifi facility within my Hub. It's working by default as I have tested it by using a mobile phone.

2.If I use your link and get through the stage show in the diagram under Number 5. In my case titled "local area connection"
If Ii select "disable" won't that disable my internet access not just my wifi facility?

Ah, ok. Now that makes more sense then. The Windows Mobility Center will not help with this.

Usually, you will need to log in to the router using the router's IP address in your browser's address bar on the PC to then turn off wireless in the router's settings. Sometimes the router will have a physical button on it to turn on/off wireless.

What's the brand and model of your router? I'll see if I can find more specific instructions for how to do this.

Hello again Brink.
I have done it. After your prompt above, I looked on the back of my Hub, took down the details of the web address. Logged into the Hub via the username and password on the back of the Hub. Changed my Password, then turned off Wifi. I checked it with my phone and indeed it is now off.

I have had my hub for about 5 years and wifi is on by default. I never even thought about it until I recently was given an android phone that needed updating, preferably by wifi. Hence my investigation, I never use wifi and I wanted the facility to turn if off, just because I can. (the added benefit being I can tell my conspiracy theorist Mom that my brain is no longer being fried by Wifi signals )

Thanks for your help and your patience with questions. I know where to come for help in the future.

You're most welcome.

Hopefully no one has been using your Wi-Fi.

No, I don't think so they would need the SSID and password from the back of my Hub.
