"Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration

the laptop I am typing this from wi-fi works, I have a Gateway MX6920 that originally had Windows XP on it, I wiped that and installed Windows 7. and have very few installed programs on it. Openoffice, firefox, teamviewer, Gimp, and a steam game is all that's on it (and an Antivirus) but it will no longer connect to my wi-fi, it used to but now doesn't. I have 'limited access' and the troubleshooter says "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. how do I fix?

So, are you saying when running XP the wi-fi and internet connection was working but has never worked the same under W7 ? Or.... it has worked since you changed to W7 but now for some reason it does not ?

one thing i would try first is to open a elevated command prompt within windows 7(click start, programs, accessories, then command prompt but right click on command prompt instead of standard click). Right click on run as administrator: then type ipconfig /release. Once it releases the ip address; then type ipconfig /renew. Hopefully that will fix the issue. If that does not work; try power cycling BOTH the modem and router: unplug both the modem and router; and wait about a minute or so: then plug in the modem first and let that fully boot; then plug in the router and let that reboot as well. Try one or both of these things if needed and report back.

You can also try clicking on the DIAGNOSE function after right-clicking on your WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION.

Hope this helps! ^^

right click the wireless in the service tray and then click on your connection...there's a button called "diagnose" and that will reset all the settings to a working state

good luck

I did the command prompt thing, the triangle is still there and ran the troubleshooter again and got the following message "windows has tested your internet connection and verified you can access some websites" but none of my websites I type in will load "server not found" I tried like 50 urls. Google, Facebook ect. Googling "windows has tested your internet connection and verified you can access some websites" with quotes brought up 0 results "no results for" then it searched automatically without quotes and it was junk
