sharing files (one win7 on domain the other one 8.1 not on domain)

    hi
i want to share files between two pcs.
one is a laptop that is part of domain . i know its local admin pass and the user who owns it has his domain creds and is also part of administrators group.

the other machine is windows 8.1 which is not part of domain.

the windows 7 machine is connected through wifi to the office internet. and windows 8.1 machine has not internet our outside access.
i have a lan cable. i connected it to both pcs and gave ip 192.168.1.2/24 and 192.168.2.3/24 to other (no dns no default gateway etc)

this way i could ping each other and i could see the shared folder (which resides on win8.1 machine ) but i couldnt access it ..
    it gave permissions error ..

how to share files between them ? in the above scenario..

Did you mean to place those machines into different subnets?

To be in the same subnet the third octet would need to be the same on both machines plus matching workgroup names although the Domain's Group Policy may prevent sharing outside the Domain while connected to the Domain can only guess on that.

Did you turn on Network Discovery, File and printer sharing etc. in the Advanced Sharing settings? Same Workgroup name etc.

Is the C: Users folder shared with Everyone on both machines, you can check this via the Sharing tab of the Users folder. This should be default with Windows 8 but with Windows 7 you would also need to share folders separately though the C: Users>Username folder
