W7 VPN connected but cannot access network or map network drive
I am trying to set up a VPN with using a Windows 7 ultimate maching as a server. The current client is also W7
I've been through the two tutorials on this site and set it up. Forwarded port 1723 to the relevant PC, set PPTP and when the dust had settled, the client PC (accessing the internet via BT Openzone) will connect to the server (using a non-BTopenzone internet connection).
I am trying to set up a network drive mapped to a share on the server but I cannot access any of the shares on the server. If I try \\server\share I just get "not found" (I presume server should be the internal network name or IP as opposed to the external one?)
When I 'browse', I only see the files and folders on the client PC.
On the server I have
RAS (Dial in) interfaces listed as work network, access type internet
Home Network Access type internet, Homegroup - ready to create (I actually have a work group and will connect Xp machine to this server - if I ever get it working) Connections LAN connection
I unticked 'use default gateway on remote network' on both IPv4 and IPv6
The server is identified via no-ip.com 'cos I dont have a static IP address but it makes no difference if I use the external IP address
I can ping the computer using its No-IP name or its IP address but I cannot map a network drive or access any network shares.
The server incoming connection has
IPV6 unticked, File and printer sharing ticked, QoS packet scheduler ticked
Under TCP/IPv4 the allow callers to access my network is ticked (assign IP address automatically)
Under the Local Area connection sharing tab, allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection was not ticked. I tried to tick it but was then forced to select a private network but the choices were only a wireless network so I left it unticked (currently other PCs on the LAN share the interent connection OK)
So How can I set up a network drive to a shared folder on my VPN server?
Thanks for any help
