Windows 7 network newly created folders disappear.

Sorry if this has been brought up before.
We have a Windows 7 domain with Server 2003 and 2008 incorporating an IBM AS400 ( not sure if that is relevant but ). When our accounts director tries to create a new folder and then renames the folder, it disappears.
He has full permissions to create and rename, and there is sufficient disk space etc.
i wonder if anyone has come across this before or has any further ideas.
